Sustainability as an Attitude – 20 Years of ECOPROFIT
For 20 years, Getzner Textil has been part of ECOPROFIT – the most widely adopted environmental and climate management system in Vorarlberg.
The certification stands for systematic environmental protection in business: practical, efficient, and future-oriented. For Getzner Textil, it reflects a deeply rooted environmental awareness and a strong sense of responsibility toward the region and the environment.
Local companies are investing heavily in efficiency measures, new technologies, and renewable energy sources,” emphasized Regional Minister for Economic Affairs Marco Tittler during the presentation of the ECOPROFIT® certificates.
And indeed, Getzner Textil’s environmental strategy is broad-based – ranging from the use of renewable energy sources to intelligent waste heat utilization.
Environmental Strategy with Vision
Since as early as 2001, Getzner Textil has been feeding surplus energy into the local district heating network of the city of Bludenz via its own heating system.
This energy helps provide pleasant temperatures in facilities such as the Val Blu indoor swimming pool, the Bludenz Mitte primary school, and the local kindergarten. The amount of energy supplied each year corresponds to approximately one million liters of heating oil – saving around 3,000 tons of CO₂ annually.
We also generate energy on our rooftops:
Last year alone, 4,688 m² of photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of 1,100 kWp were installed on the weaving mill roof – enough to supply electricity for around 300 single-family homes per year. The roof of the new production hall, covering 4,500 square meters, will be greened and planted with vegetation that promotes biodiversity.
Hydropower with Tradition
Our roots in the use of renewable energy run deep:
As early as 1910, the waters of the Alvier river were harnessed for electricity generation. Today, Getzner operates four in-house hydropower plants that produce approximately 5.6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year. We also rely on sustainability when it comes to cooling – using groundwater from two company-owned wells.
