The construction of a new basketball court in Dakar, Senegal, strengthens regional cohesion and creates new opportunities. The project was implemented by "Engineers Without Borders," with financial support from Getzner Textil.
The construction of a new basketball court in Dakar, Senegal, strengthens regional cohesion and creates new opportunities. The project was implemented by "Engineers Without Borders," with financial support from Getzner Textil.
The new basketball court not only offers space for sports activities but also promotes social cohesion and opens up new opportunities for children and young people. It serves as a meeting place, being used by basketball clubs as well as for community celebrations. Local schools and a nearby orphanage also benefit from the new sports facility. Approximately 28,000 people from the surrounding neighbourhood have access and use the court regularly as a community gathering spot.
Members of the non-profit organisation "Engineers Without Borders" volunteered for four years to realise this project. Getzner provided financial support: "It is important to us to support local projects and strengthen communities in regions where our fabrics are worn," said Tobias König from Getzner.
