New Maternity Ward for Bolokoro

Getzner Textil Supports Health Project in Mali

In Bolokoro, a village in the Sikasso region in southern Mali, the existing health centre has been expanded with the support of Getzner Textil to include a maternity ward. The new facility features modern sanitary installations, a reliable water supply and a solar-powered lighting system. This significantly improves healthcare for more than 44,000 people – particularly pregnant women, mothers and newborns in Bolokoro and the surrounding communities.

Community Engagement

The maternity ward was built in close cooperation with the local community and is available for deliveries, prenatal check-ups and medical care. At the same time, accompanying training sessions strengthen medical knowledge and local management. Around 100 patients per month make use of the new facility. “The project demonstrates how local structures can be strengthened and healthcare sustainably improved. It is a joint success that benefits the entire region,” says Tobias König, Head of the Business Unit Africa.

Sustainable Structures for the Future

The project is designed for sustainable use and regional independence: the community provided the land free of charge, while medical staff are funded by the municipality and the local community health association ASACO (Association de santé communautaire). A local membership system gives the population access to affordable basic healthcare and helps finance ongoing operations. In this way, the maternity ward is developing into a cornerstone of healthcare provision in Bolokoro.
