When love strikes – and your career begins
Eda Kurt moved from Cologne to Bludenz for love. But what began as a
decision of the heart proved to be a real success in terms of her career.
Four years on, Eda has successfully completed her apprenticeship and is
now a permanent member of the sales team in the ‘Technical Textiles’
Business Unit at Getzner Textil.
Eda was 22 years old when she began her apprenticeship as an industrial management assistant. “My prior experience meant I could do the shorter two-year apprenticeship,” she explains. Eda had previously completed her Abitur (the German equivalent of A levels) in Cologne and started a degree in commercial law and Translation studies. “But that wasn’t the right choice – my degree Course wasn’t practical enough for me,” she remembers.
Her love of languages and Fashion and numerous positive recommendations from others led her to pursue a career at Getzner Textil. In the course of her training, she learned how the company worked from the bottom up: purchasing, invoicing, finishing, the order centre, and finally sales.
“This was the perfect way to understand how a company of this size works,” says Eda. She was particularly grateful for the open corporate culture: “Everywhere I went, I was made welcome. Somebody was always there to help me if I h ad questions –
even if they were figuring things out with me.”
Today, at the age of 24, Eda has found her place in international sales and this is exactly where her strengths lie. Having grown up speaking Arabic, Turkish and German, and now fluent in English and Spanish as well, she feels right at home in global communication. She is currently looking after customers across Austria, Germany, the UK, the USA and Canada for the Technical Textiles Business Unit, and other countries are set to follow. “Our products are so varied that there’s never dull moment!” she says with a smile.
