The Advantages of Acoustic Textiles

Fabrics offer decisive advantages as sound absorbers: They are shapeable and possess an open-pored structure. This enables them to absorb sound particularly effectively. Reverberation is reduced, and speech intelligibility is improved.

Functional
Acoustics measurements prove that the products absorb up to 90% of all sound.
Aesthetics
The interior design elements meet the most discerning standards when it comes to aesthetics.
Versatile
acunic® can be used for ceiling sails, wall panels, curtains and much more.

Frequently asked questions

What are acoustic textiles or acoustic fabrics?

Acoustic textiles – often also referred to as acoustic fabrics – improve room acoustics by reducing or absorbing sound. They are permeable and designed to effectively capture sound waves. acunic© acoustic textiles combine modern 3D weaving techniques with high-quality materials such as Trevira CS and achieve noise reduction of up to 90 per cent. This creates a textile solution that combines functionality and aesthetics in equal measure.

What are the advantages of acunic© compared to other acoustic materials?

acunic© combines high sound absorption with a light, textile character that gives rooms a pleasant atmosphere. The acoustic fabrics achieve sound reduction of up to 90 per cent – without the additional insulation required by other acoustic materials. They can be used flexibly, are easy to install and can be customised to individual needs. This creates acoustic solutions that bring greater peace and well-being to both workspaces and living environments.

Which is the best sound-absorbing material?

Materials that combine density, permeability and flexibility are particularly effective. acunic© acoustic textiles rank among the most powerful solutions of their kind, achieving a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of up to 0.9. Thanks to their special 3D polywoven structure, they are ideal for wall panels, ceiling sails, curtains or acoustically effective partitions. At the same time, they offer a warm, textile appearance – unlike materials such as foam or wood.

What is the Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC)?

The NRC value indicates how well a material can absorb sound – from 0 (reflective) to 1.0 (fully absorbent). acunic© acoustic textiles achieve values of up to 0.9, reducing around 90 per cent of the incident sound energy. They are particularly effective in the frequency range of the human voice, making them ideal for offices, schools and healthcare environments. This performance is based on their unique combination of density, permeability and innovative 3D weaving technology.

How do I install acoustic fabrics in my room?

acunic© textiles are easy and flexible to install – as wall panels, stretched over frames, as ceiling sails or as curtains. Furniture can also be upholstered with acoustic fabrics. Our team provides tailored mounting solutions and professional installation. On request, we carry out an acoustic measurement to determine the optimal solution for each space.

How does an acoustic measurement work?

An on-site acoustic measurement is quick and straightforward. The collected data is fed directly into software that calculates the appropriate quantity and type of acunic© fabrics, including pricing. This means a complete quotation is available within minutes. Alternatively, a virtual measurement is also possible, where the room data is captured and analysed digitally to determine the optimal acoustic solution.

Which fire safety standard do acunic© acoustic fabrics comply with?

acunic© acoustic textiles are flame-retardant and certified according to DIN 4102-1 (B1). This makes them suitable for public buildings, such as educational institutions. Further information can be found in the technical data sheets.

Can acoustic fabrics be customised?

Yes, acunic© fabrics can be customised almost without limits in terms of colour, structure and visual design – from solid tones to full-surface UV printing (Pantone, CMYK). The textiles retain their acoustic performance and fire resistance, making them suitable for a wide range of applications such as panels, ceiling sails, curtains or furniture.

Can I wash or clean acoustic fabrics?

Many acunic© textiles are easy to care for and can be washed on a gentle cycle at 40 °C or simply wiped with a damp cloth. Non-washable variants can be cleaned by tapping or vacuuming. Specific care instructions vary depending on the product.

Can acoustic fabrics help reduce noise in open-plan offices?

Yes, acoustic textiles are particularly effective in open-plan office concepts where voices and reverberation can quickly become disruptive. acunic© fabrics can be used as wall panels, ceiling sails, partitions or curtains to create quiet work zones. They reduce echoes, improve speech intelligibility and, thanks to their textile surface, blend harmoniously into modern office architecture.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

For roll goods, a minimum order quantity of 50 linear metres in the colour Offwhite applies. Finished products such as panels or frames are available from a single piece – also in Offwhite as standard. Coloured variants are produced on request; here, the minimum quantity is usually between 100 and 150 metres.

What are the delivery and payment terms?

acunic© delivers according to the Incoterm FCA (“Free Carrier”) Bludenz. The payment term is 30 days net. Further details regarding shipping, processing or international deliveries can be agreed on a project basis.

How sustainable are acunic© acoustic textiles?

acunic© is an in-house brand of Getzner Textil AG and is produced in Europe. Manufacturing is resource-efficient and energy-conscious. The textiles are made from inherently flame-retardant materials and are produced without additional chemical flame-retardant treatments.

Is there a take-back system?

Yes, acunic© offers a take-back system. The acoustic textiles are made from high-quality Trevira CS yarn and can be repurposed after use. By taking them back, the lifecycle of the materials is extended and resource-efficient further processing is enabled.
