Damask Festival Week in Bamako

In Bamako, the capital of Mali, numerous guests and celebrities celebrated the "Semaine du Boubou" – an event initiated and organised by renowned Malian designer Ikalook. Together with long-standing partner Baka Bathily, Getzner supported the event as its main sponsor.

The audience eagerly awaits the new designs on the runway.

The open-air event on the grounds of Mali’s National Museum marked the start of the festival week. The programme included traditional dances, musical performances, and an exclusive presentation of the "IKALOOK x GETZNER" collection, specially created for the occasion. The evening’s highlight was a fashion show by ten young designers from the region. As part of a competition, they showcased unique creations made from Getzner Damask, ranging from reinterpretations of traditional Boubous to high-fashion pieces.

The Future of Fashion

Tobias König, Head of the Africa Business Unit at Getzner, along with CEO Roland Comploj and designer Birgitta Kleinheinz, was delighted to be part of the event: "The Semaine du Boubou was an extremely positive and innovative event for us. I immediately agreed when it came to supporting young designers because the fashion of tomorrow is being created right here."

For the occasion, the three Getzner representatives wore specially tailored African Boubous. "It's inspiring to see the creative ways our fabrics are worn. Usually, we only see the material sold by the metre – here, we witnessed our Damask truly come alive. It was an excellent opportunity to gain fresh ideas for future developments," said Tobias König.
